Boozhoo! My name is Jayson Stewart, and I’m honoured to be working with Anishinaabe singer Mary Bryton Nahwegahbow, a member of Whitefish River First Nations, to bring an extraordinary vision to life: a professionally recorded trilingual version of O Canada—sung in Anishinaabemowin, English, and French.

Mary recently graduated from Queen's University and has spent years travelling the country singing her trilingual version of Canada's national anthem. She has opened Blue Jays' games and NHL games and, most recently, the Canadian government's cabinet swearing-in ceremony  at Rideau Hall in Canada, garnering her national attention.  Beyond singing the national anthem in three languages, Mary performed at the Canada Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony for Bruce Cockburn.

This project is deeply personal and culturally powerful. We believe that Canada’s national anthem should reflect the voices of the land, its First Peoples, and the many languages that shape our shared identity. With your help, we’ll bring this anthem into the hearts of schools across the country and First Nations communities across Turtle Island.

Your support means making history—help us give Canada an anthem that truly sounds like home.

We are seeking $4,000 CAD to fund:

• Studio recording time with professional audio engineers
• Mixing, mastering, and production of the trilingual anthem
• Licensing and distribution costs to make the anthem freely available to schools and First Nations
• Creation of educational materials to accompany the song, teaching Anishinaabemowin language and meaning
• Production administration costs

If we don’t reach our full goal, funds will still be used to record and distribute the anthem in a digital-only format, and to cover basic studio and licensing costs.

Even though our original Indiegogo campaign is over, we are continuing our fundraising campaign and will honour all the original perks!  We will be using the additional funds we raise to hire an Anishinaabemowin language educator to create authentic teacher resources to use with the anthems in their schools and communities.
